Ten years ago American painter Klari Reis was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. “As I underwent treatment,” she says, “I started thinking about the different ways our bodies responded to medication.” For the last two years she has been creating intricate, microbial designs in Plexiglass  Petri dishes.

Reis works with biotech agencies, examining the effect of pharmaceuticals on blood under electron microscopes. Then, using layers of pigmented epoxy polymer, she recreates what she has seen.
